Hi everyone, my name is Dakota. I am the owner of a recently acquired (rust-free) 1986 XJ6 VDP in candy apple red. I’m very pleased with my car and use it daily. It’s been sitting for years, but it’s being driven and has proven to be a really good example that just needs a little help, I’m tackling quite a few repairs, to get it where I want it, I do a lot of work myself, and what I can’t do, my friends who are mechanics will help me out. I’ve always loved cars, but my love runs deep for Daimler built Mercedes Benz. This is actually the first time I haven’t owned a Mercedes. (Although I do feel the series 3 is a bit more bulletproof than people give them credit for.)

Currently, the cosmetic condition, especially the interior, is in stunning condition; the exterior has some peeling clear coat I will handle at some point. Exterior cosmetic issues are usually lower priority for me.

Mechanical reliability is a big deal for me and always my main priority (it becomes just shy of an obsession for me). The way that I operate is I don’t like doing things once, let alone twice. My biggest pet peeve when it comes to cars and fixing cars is…..low-quality parts. I’m a big supporter of factory components for my other cars; that’s all I buy unless something happens to be unavailable, but usually, I am still able to find it.

However, I’ve learned that’s not how things work for an old Jaguar, and that’s something I’m learning to come to terms with. I really do love the car; it’s what I would describe as “a really happy car.” Besides the XJ6, my other car is a
911 (993), so I rotate between the two. My cars get driven; I don’t believe in owning something I don’t drive. Within the 993 community, it’s very much the culture of you don’t drive your car, which is something I don’t buy into. If I own something, I want to enjoy it; I want to have the experience with it and live in the moment, as inevitably my life will fade, and the preservation of a car won’t matter. So my mindset is drive them like a Camry and live life in them! lol I hope to chat with all of you and learn from all of you. I’m happy to be here!

Welcome to the Forums.

The more you drive them, the less time you spend tinkering.

ALL mine were/are Daily Drivers, and worked hard.

Fill the beer fridge and enjoy the ride.

Good luck.
