Last week I purchased a 1986 XJS. My father had a 1974 XJ12L when I was in high school from 1985 to 1987. I fell in love with Jaguars and the smooth V12 engine at that time. My dream car was the XJS. This car may be a nightmare. Body is very solid. Engine and transmission seem fine. Interior shows normal wear. Suspension needs some worn parts replace and upgraded. Elecrical???? I lurked on here for the past week and posts have been helpful. I found Kirby's book and have read almost all of it. I have had some small victories and a few setbacks. I am sure you will hear more from me in the future, but for now, I am using many of your suggestions to track down the problems. I knew it wouldn't be easy. I knew electrical would be an issue. I didn't know that I may need a second job and an electrical engineering degree. I'm still smiling. I love the car. I just want to get it on the road and enjoy (with trust in it).

Welcome to the forum Peel86XJS,

Many XJS owners here haven't been as fortunate to start with a solid Body and a good Drivetrain!

From your reading, you probably already know the way to the tech section but if not, follow this link XJS - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJS section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You may also like to visit the US Mid West Region by by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/mid-west-us-il-ia-mi-mn-mo-oh-wi-39/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forum.

Welcome aboard, Peel. Please post pics of the car when you can. I've always loved the XJSs but have been too scared of them based on reputation.
