Default New Member Needs 1998 XK8 Advice

Hello All;
I out-smarted my self again, though I would buy another newer Jaguar to get my 65 XKS ( S-Type ) off the road for some needed repairs. I found a early 1998 (manufactured 1997) gold XK8 convertible at the Montgomery Park swap meet for a good deal, now it is turning into another project LOL.
The big problem for now is " Gauge cluster dead.Engine Amber,Red,ABS,Brake,fuel lights on.No shift " I though I found the fix in this post and then noticed that the Tech bulletin is only for the 2000 year jaguar and my 97 built gauge cluster has a different circuit board. Any advice or links will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance;
jondigan

First, have you checked all the fuses that power the instrument cluster?

If that is OK, try to find a '97-'99 cluster on ebay with a return policy. Most are around $100. If you can match the VCATS code (software version on a label in the trunk under somewhere under the carpeting) that would be ideal, but this info is often not available on ebay listings.

There is a decent chance it will work. If it works, your odometer will be wrong, but everthing else should be OK.

There are also companies that rebuild instrument clusters if you search on google.

Welcome to the forum jondigan,

Follow Norris' link to the XK8/XKR tech section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Take a breath, read the codes and post them in the tech section.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Thanks to all;
I will go to Auto zone and have them retrieve the codes.
I think I saw the hookup in the drivers side dash fuse box.
