New member needs help w/fuel fill problem
Hello from N.J. My 2001 XJ8 has been a pleasure to drive. No trouble, untill I encountered a problem fueling up,only a small amount of fuel will flow into the tank. I pushed a flexable rod into the fuel intake. Encountered what seemed to be a flap, that opened very hard before the tank. I suspect it is a device that should open whenthe fueling up. Can anyone tell me if I'm on the right track, suggest afix or giveother input on the cause of the problem?

RE: New member needs help w/fuel fill problem
its not the stations pump, its either the cannister close valve under the car which is supposed to be open when not energised so as you fill the pressure goes out the charcoal cannisters and allows the gas to go in the tank, you can disc the pipe temporarily to check if this stops the problem(will set a ck engine light though for evap leak, just go to auto parts store and have them clear it) if this is not it its the evap loss cap on top of the fuel tank and the tank has to be removed to change this

Ive been having the same problem. It was the fuel cannister's. This might be a dumb question, but is there any way to clean them out? The only reason im asking is at the moment, I really don't have $700.00 to spend on 2 fuel cannister's. Ive bought one before for a different car and they were around $30, but I know its Jaguar and I KNOW its expensive.

Fuel fill restriction
My 2000 XJ8 won't accept fuel as others have stated. The tech manual indicates a check valve in the tank at the filler pipe entrance which is said to be a push fit and can be reached through the opening on the top of the tank. When replacing the fuel pump I attempted to reach the valve to no avail. I can jam the valve open with a flef tube and plan to leave the flex tube in place to allow the fuel to pass. What is the purpose of the check valve and what is the shortcoming of my solution?
