Exclamation new member, new owner, help!

Hi there!

I wanted to introduce myself, my name is Elyse and I am a new Jag owner. I inherited my new Jag from my late grandfather. I have great childhood memories with this car so I sort of went against my families advice to flip it and get rid of it. Its sentimental...and I love it and I need to drive it.

Its a 1988 V12 Vanden Plas... and I have no idea were to begin. Let me start with a couple of things:
- Im a 25 year old girl
- I just got my license
- I dont know anything about cars
- The car has 130,000 clicks
- Its hasnt been driven for a little over a year.

So. It seems to me that I need to get it looked at and quoted. Logically, Im assuming this needs not just any mechanic but a Jag Doctor. Any suggestions for Toronto?
Also, It looks like I have to search around for a storage garage to hold my new guy. Does anyone know of a good vehicle storage unit?

Also Im looking around for as much research as possible. I want to know what Im looking at and talking about mechanically. Even other details such as; is this more of a summer time car? how often does it need to be checked up? are their any kinks that I should be cautious of?

Anyways this is my story! Thanks for listening. Any advice would be SO greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
-E

Welcome to the forum Elyse,

A great way to hold on to childhood memories and the memory of your Grandfather. Apart from that a very nice car to own and drive.

The 130K isn't likely to be an issue but getting the VDP running properly after a year without use will take a little attention.

Follow this link XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the Series I/II/III section for help and advice.

First thing you're after is local knowledge. Regional Co-ordinator avt007 (Rob) is likely to pick up on your post here and get you some information relevant to Toronto. (he's in Vancouver but that's a lot closer than I am!)

Enjoy the VDP and the forum.

Graham

Welcome to this friendly Forum, Elyse. The ideal would be a JF member in your area who would pop over + take a look.
One thing's for sure - you'll need to have the battery tested and either charged or replaced so that's something to do right away while you're getting sorted.

Welcome Elyse! I support your decision, your grandfather would be proud. I'd sugggest starting a thread in the Canadian section (the link is in my signature) asking for advice on a Toronto area Jag specialist.
As for research, this is the best place to be.
