Hi all, I just purchased a new (to me) 1999 XJ8 VDP. My youngest is graduating from college next month and I made the final tuition payment last week! Three kids is private schools and out of state colleges has been taxing to say the least. I felt it was time to splurge on myself.

I'm not new to Jaguars having restored a '54 XK-120 roadster, a 66 E-type OTS and previously had a 1982 XJ6. I still have the E-Type but its been 4 years since I drove it into the garage.

I'm planning to use the XJ8 as a semi daily driver at least in fair weather, Northeast Ohio winters can be pretty messy. The car has spent much of its life down south in Georgia so it looks to be in pretty good shape.

There's a few minor things that need sorted out and I look forward to reading an adding posts in the future.

Default RE Welcome to the Forum

Thanks for the warm welcome Graham,

I've been cruising the XJ-308 forum to find out what to look for or to avoid before I made the purchase. My car had its transmission replaced 18,000 miles ago and the chain retentioner updated some time ago so most of the "heavy lifting" has already been done. Thanks to the forum for all the great insight.

I've been lurking on the XKE list for longer than I'd like to admit. Lets put it this way, when I bought the E-Type my daughter first rode in it "In-Vitro". She got married 3 years ago this summer! I guess I like looking at the E-Type more than I like driving it (I'm 6'3" 210 LBS).

Generally I'm pretty resourceful but I'll need more help with this XJ8. Plenty of electronics and quite frankly things I've never encountered before. The XK120 was child's play. The factory shop manual told you everything you needed to know and what it didn't common sense took care of. I really appreciate all the help that I've already gotten from the forum! Thanks again.
