Hi everyone, just joined the forum. Quick history about myself. Last century, my dad got a 420G in sable (my mum given a choice between a E Type and the 420G, he and the salesman thought she would pick the E, she picked the 420G because she liked the walnut picnic tables in the back!!!). Suffice to say, we loved the car. I was hooked. Dad swapped the 420G for a regency red XJ6 4,2 auto, when I turned 17, dad let me drive it! Roll on to this century, some twenty two years later, I bought my first XJ, an XJ8 3.2 V8. My mum still loves it (dad passed away last century, mum is a spritely 94) and we are stll motoring!
Got loads of questions, great to meet you all in the forums!

Default PS Thanks

Thank you for your reply Graham. Also thank you one and all for the warm welcomes. My mum says to ElinorB she would get on with you smashingly as well - a kindred spirit!
Regarding mums comments on the wood in the 420G, I wonder how popular a modern take on the series 1 to series 3 XJ would be? That is, aluminium body combining the best shape of 1 to 3, woods, light leathers, light interiors ( mum says that the latest XJ inside is too dark for her!) modern Jag engines (even smoother than the V12 5.3 ), modern electrics etc, and a ride and lower noise levels inside to surpass William Lyon's iconic masterpiece? Oh yes, and even better than anything else out there? (Am I allowed to say this, Moderators?)

Jaguars' current design chief, Ian Callum, has gone even further back for a modern take on an iconic Lyons era Jaguar. This is his recently completed MK2:

Jaguar Mk2 (2014) by Ian Callum and Classic Motor Cars by CAR Magazine

He didn't go as far as having it rebuilt with an aluminium body!

Default Ian Callums Mk11

Yes, it is fascinating what he has done. Some people like it, others do not. However, I wonder if I ought to write to Ian and see if he thinks it would be commercially viable for Jaguar to do this? I appreciate that today that car design is modern and shapes are streamlined, but look at the success of the modern manufacturers' version of the Mini and VW Beetle have acheived. Does anyone think it is an idea worth pursuing? And I believe that Ian's Mk2 cost £300,000 to make??!!)
