Hi! I once owned a 1986 xj, used, that turned out to be a gray market lemon. It wouldn't pass smog, so it unfortunately had to go. It was a disaster, but i loved it for four years. That was 15 years ago! At the time i was into Alfa Romeos, have owned quite a few. After the jag, i bought a Toyota Solara and though it was dependable and powerful, i eventually sold it for a big loss. I replaced it w a 1993 (used) Alfa 164 and owned it for some nine years, and really thought it was great. Best Alfa ever? A 1989 Milano, not as dependable as the 164, but a great driver. A yahoo came out of nowhere and crushed the Milano. I had a '95 Corvette, nice car but awful track car ride, sold that to a brother, then i got into bimmers. E 46s are a favorite, just about bulletproof, and they ride and handle great. I also had an e39 that my son still uses.

This Jag: 2004, replaces a VW Jetta diesel returned to the mfgr. As a court settlement over emissions. Not a great car overall. This Jag, an '04 XJ, all aluminum all the time, needs work. It's a project car, and i drove it around in limp mode, not knowing it at the time. Recently i replaced the mass sensor, and now it goes like hell and cuts like a knife. Really a lot of fun, and very much a class act. I replaced the air pump, it needs to come out again, then an air strut failed. Got a rebuilt, installed it fairly easily, and now have a very good concept of what an aluminum XJ is supposed to be. There once was an Alfa Romeo GTA, 'Allegrita,' meaning lightened with an aluminum body. Well, i now have the Jaguar version, and it is a wonderful automobile. Are there issues? Yes indeedy, there are. Will they be fixed? I am confident they will be. Can you buy a better grand tourer? I seriously doubt it. If that sounds inflammatory, come take a ride, you will see.

Welcome to the forum romroc,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the X350 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.
