Hey guys/gals,

just wanted to say hi, have been reading these forums since i bought my car and finally decided to join so i can gain more knowledge from everyone here and hopefully one day also help someone else. Well in June last year i bought my first Jaguar a 1990 XJS V12 (my father in-law has always owned jags and currently has a 1994 XJ6, 196- not exactly sure E-Type and a older XJ6, laughed and said that the bug must now be air born lol) . The first time i saw it i feel in love, and the first 2 months was a little upsetting when the alternator died in the main street, lucky for me it was only 6am and barely anyone around. So about $2200 and 1 week later i got it back and it has all been going great since then with the little minor things (dint removal and a little rust cut out) and now a blown a/c pump there goes another $1000, but i think its all worth it and so does the wife. I will put a pic below of the car, that is when we just got the car back from mechanics. Will try to add more photos when i can find them!!

Ozzie, about time you quit reading and joined in. Don't forget that any 21 year old car could cost you thousands of dollars to keep running. If you are talking one or two grand a year, that's not so bad. Also remember you don't have just any 21 year old car. It's a Jag. If the good wife is also happy, that's nothing but a huge bonus!

$2200 dollars for an alter...

Oh... welcome to the forum.

Now back to my original thought... $2200 for an alternator??? Is it made of diamonds?

Welcome to the forum! That seems like an awful lot of money for both the alternator AND the A/C?
Still, I have to agree with Mohrd, when all is said and done, it's cheap money compared to the payments of a similarly equipped new car, and the style is untouchable!

Lol diamond encrusted i bloody wish then i could sell it for a normal one and come out on top, it wasn't just for the alternator i got them to go over car and replace anything that needed doing, like new bushes, springs, seals, spark plugs, repair radiator and flush etc which is why it was so much. The a/c the quote is for a $1000 incase they run into anything else that may need doing for the pump and filter plus labour it will be $750 and then I'm getting them also to look into why the centre blower no longer works may be a vacuum issue or the flap is stuck.

I am still trying to source those other pics can't remember where i put them, as this pic was before i got the paint work touched up a little and replaced the fogs as you can see the one that is rusting inside it. but i will post once i find them.

Also on a side note i have just got some Leatherique to restore the leather, its in pretty good nick but want it to be the best i can get it!!
