New member in Socal
Hello all,
Just dropping a line to say hi, and that I'm on the lookout for a Series 1 or 1.5 E type Coupe in the Socal area. Looking forward to owning one of these cars after years of dreaming. I've owned Porsches, a Lotus, Triumph, Westfield (like a Lotus 7) etc and a host of other sports cars but really the dream has always been an E type coupe.
Look forward to picking your brains.
All the best

Hello yer lordship . . .
How appropriate for an Aussie to guide the royalty among us . . . we do a very fine line in grovelling . . . it comes with much practice, y'know! Hahaha.
I suggest you post your interest in the Jaguar E-Type in the forum specific to that model. Re-posting here, many months after your intro, is unlikely to garner any huge response. But then, your declared intent to seek out an early E-Type (and a perfect one at that!) is a VERY TALL ORDER. Good luck!
Perhaps your even better plan might be to seek beyond these forums . . . but I readily bow to local NA knowledge. Members here tend to be enthusiasts who already know and value such beasts, and don't tend to part with them readily. There are exceptions (especially among "less than perfect" cars) and I'm one . . . finally coerced by my mate to part with mine after 37 years ownership.
IMHO, if money is less an issue (you lucky devil, you) then my GOLD PLATED ADVICE is not to buy any NA specc'd car . . . are you aware that most were detuned, strangled and re-geared as mere parodies of the Home Country, Euro & ROW cars . . . power well down, acceleration OK with re-gearing but top speed down from 150 to 120 or so. Research carefully and seek the finest you can afford in Europe . . . any left handed country like your own . . . I'm not au fait with your import regs, but international shipping container freight is a mere joke compared to the purchase price of a Series1 or 1.5 E-Type.
OR . . . buy 2 modern "post facelift" XK8s and an XKR for the same money!
Best wishes,

Ken

If you haven't already read it, Jaguar E-Type - The Definitive History by Philip Porter is an excellent and highly detailed guide to the complex build and specification variations. First published in 1989, a second edition has recently been printed.
Knowing exactly what is being offered for sale is often even more difficult than finding available E-Types.

You should also follow the Bring a Trailer website and the BaT auctions. There have been some nice E-Types featured there and reader comments often have some choice jewels of wisdom and thorough knowledge.
Happy hunting, you lucky devel!

Hi Granville,
Bring a Trailer is already one of my favourites. Pretty ruthless comments sometimes but always a good place to find cars.
There was a Canadian series 1.5 on there recently that looked like a good car at a good price but I must've missed it.
Looking forward to picking your brains when the project starts!
Cheers all
