I've had my Jaguar Mark 7M in the carport since 2007, collecting all of the bits and pieces needed [or nice to have] before commencing any work. It hasn't been on the road since arriving, nor turned over, as previous owner did a basic conversion to -ve earth, and it just doesn't work. I think the car transporter tried to charge a flat battery [incorrectly] and has affected the coil.

Anyway, enough rambling. I'm now at the stage of making the decision of either doing a complete strip and rebuild, or do a 'rolling' restoration. and would appreciate some insight from those who have been there and done that, whichever route one took.

The car is 95% original, and is one of those cross-over models - that is, it is a genuine Mark 7M [chassis, motor and gearbox numbers all according to Jaguar Heritage], BUT the fenders and doors have the locating holes for the chrome dividing strips that are seen on the Mark 8, as well as the low cut-away spats.

I know it's going to be fun, and a challenge, but I've got to start sometime. Hope you guys n girls can help.

Welcome to our world.

The MIGHTY MK7, my first car waaaaay back.

My memory of it is fuzzy (being polite here), so I will leave the answers to those currently dealing with the beasts.

I dont believe the charging would damage the coil unless he had the ign ON at the time, which seems unlikely. Swapping the +ve and -v wires on the coil is all I have ever done in the past when doing this update.

Welcome to the forum Jtrieschmann,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

MK 7M - my grandfather had a new one in 1955. Bright red with a tan interior and I can still remember the smell of it to this day. Unfortunately that's about all I can remember as I was only six years old at the time!

Follow this link Mark V - X 420G - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the MK V-MK X-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the Australia / New Zealand Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/australia-new-zealand-51/

Good luck with the project and enjoy the forums.

Thanks for your warm welcome, and reference links. Never been on a forum before so it's going to take some time getting use to the search tools, but your recommendations have given me a great start.
