Hi Everyone ! Greetings from the city of lights ! I love my 85 XJ6-Vanden Plas, but needs a bit of work to get her running...just towed her home after almost 10 years in storage...gas (or petrol for those of you on the other side of the pond) is probably varnish, so I'll be draining that first (if I can find the drain plugs !)...look forward to getting to know you fellow kitty owners !

Welcome to the forum Dan,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I know you've already found your way to the XJ6 tech section so htere's no need foir a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

The fuel tank drain plug is more than a simple hex plug. It has a mesh filter as part of the assembly.

We used to have serious issues with the bottom of the tanks rusting in the UK bit I expect that's one problem you won't have in LV.

Good luck and enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks again, Graham...I've looked through the forums for a pic, as I'm not sure where to "access" the drain, with no success...do I have to remove any fascia to access the drain plug ? I see a lot of references to 'bung' holes...there's a plastic cap/stopper/? on the bottom on both sides...but didn't come out easily so I didn't want to force it...is that how I access ? Thanks ~Dan

Dan,

Sorry I missed your supplementary question last night. Good to hear you worked out how to do it.

Anything flowing out or is it sludge?

Graham

I was surprised...it came out in buckets (must have been a full tank), and near as I can tell, no sludge, rust or anything else but gas (although it smelled nasty)...going down to the recycle center at 9am sharp tomorrow to dispose of it...any later and the attendant said there would be a line around the block...who knew Vegas had so much bad gas they wanted to get rid of ? :-D

As the closest I get to Vegas is watching CSI on TV, it looks like gas isn't the only thing the residents want to get rid of frequently!

Amazing the tanks are clean after standing for all that time.
