I always resisted Jags - "No. Not until I'm in my mid 30's, going bald, or fat" I still don't have the waistline to properly suit the car, but I hit the other two and fancied something V8, but comfortable for motorway miles whilst I rebuild my Capri. Quick snout on ebay threw up a few options, one being a 1999 S Type 4 litre.
November last year I picked one out. Ł500 later, I drove it home and started replacing the many parts it needs replacing. Wheel bearings, diff, track rods, a few holes in the sills and rails, spark plugs so badly worn that the electrode has retreated so far as to create a 4mm gap. Just the welding left to do, but far too busy enjoying the car to scurry underneath and start hacking the rust out/replacing with fresh steel. Is anybody aware of a decent place in the UK to source full sills?

The missus never likes going quickly, but on day one made a statement she now regrets: "This thing moves, but it doesn't terrify me when you boot it" cue sideways action and 2mpg showing on the display for the next half an hour until she started to scream about how much she dislikes me.

I have a few niggles that are annoying me with it, but otherwise happy as the proverbial pig. I'll stick a post in the S Type forums in a moment, but I'm having difficulty sourcing a replacement ashtray for this version, powerfold mirrors that don't work, voice control that doesn't have a useful command list, and satnav that roasts my retinas at night are my current puzzles with it.

If you think the R badges are bad, wait until you see the exhausts... I can put my shoe inside them. 4" Powerflow tips welded onto jag boxes. Not impressed, but the badges and tips make me laugh, so will stay for a while.
