New member with XK140 Drophead
Hi. I joined this forum because I will be assisting my sister-in-law who inherited a XK140 when my brother died 18 months ago. It's a 1957 standard drophead coupe with the auto trans. He found it in a garage parked for 20 years. He took all the brakes and suspension apart, bought replacements for all the wearable parts (ball joints, tie rod ends, hydraulic brake parts, etc.), and cleaned up all the remaining parts. The plan was to get it mechanically sound, clean it up and use it. The body is totally rust free with an old repaint. The interior is in good shape, with the wood needing refinishing.
A diagnosis of cancer put a halt to the Jag rebuild and a year later he died. He was a long time British car guy and he and his wife belonged to a very active British car club in the Ft. Myers FL area. After his death they took it upon themselves to put the car back together and get it running. They just recently completed the job. What an outstanding group guys!
My sister-in-law and I drove the car for the first time yesterday (6/23/13) and it runs and drives pretty well. She plans on keeping the Jag, driving it and taking it to British car events. While I've owned a big Healey in my youth my focus has been on Italian sports cars, I plan on helping her keep the Jag going. I hope this forum will assist me in doing that.

Welcome to the forum Al,
My condolences on the loss of your brother. That's a very special gesture from the Ft Myers car club to finish the restoration in his memory.

I hope you and your sister-in-law enjoy driving the XK140 for many years to come.
Enjoy the forum.

Thanks for the welcome and feedback. I will post photos soon.
I learned to drive in my mother's Hillman Minx and my first car at 17 was a 1956 Austin Healey 100/4. My only experience since then has occasionally helping my brother on his MGs.
For those of you familiar with obscure Italian cars might recognize my userid. After a handfull of Alfas I now have a Ferrari 400iA (1984). So there is stuff with the Jag that are foreign to me (pun intended)
Thanks

I resize a cropped down photo of the grill/headllights to below the maximum size stated for an avitar (it's 100X46 pixels) but the load fails. Guess I'll try the SigPic option.
