Welcome to the forum Bondy,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums.

I think the headrest height on the '85 is set with the pin (item 2) locating in the appropriate slot in the vertical metal bar on the headrest.

Members with the same model in the XJ6 Series III tech forum will advise whether it is just pulled or pushed to the required height.

Follow this link XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ6 Series III forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
