new from NOVA
hey everyone,
Jack here from Northern Virginia.
Just got my first car at age 16, an '04 Jaguar X-Type, how lucky am I?!
I hope to borrow some cool ideas from y'alls Jaguars.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! I'm also in Virginia. I've had my 04 X Type for two years and I absolutely love her!
You'll find lots of good info here from very knowledgeable and helpful people.
Enjoy!

Jack, welcome to the Forums. I think you will find a lot of good information here. Yes, you are lucky to get a car like that, but at the same time, I ask that you drive it with some respect or else you may loose it very soon. I'm not even talking about your parents taking it away. In case you haven't heard, the transfer cases in these cars are weak. So, if you like to play around and really push the car (I remember my days being much younger), the transfer case is going to go. When it goes (not a question of if), that is going to be a $3000 repair bill. When you add in the fact that it fails often with heavy use, the ownership of the car can get expensive fast. A few members have found this out the hard way.
If you don't mind a little bit of a drive, I am south of you by about 90 minutes or so in Great Mills MD. If you are looking at upgrades and whatnot, we can make them happen. Also, keep an eye out. Occassionally we will try to get the group together to put faces with names.

Welcome Jacktham, A Jaguar at 16, Dang!.... Enjoy the new ride but Thermo is right! Like most teenagers I tested my first car to the limit. Burn outs, power slides, donuts, etc....
Since the X is AWD, hard launches really stress the transfer case. I don't think a true burnout is even possible on dry roads. If so you'd have all 4 wheels lighting up! That would've been an awesome Jag commercial. The rear wheels only get 60% of the torque while the other 40% is at the front wheels.
Anyway, these are good cars with beautiful style and a legendary mark. Good to have you here.
