Default New XJS owner in California

Hello all,

I just bought a convertible 1996 XJS (4.0L engine) 2 days ago and I am currently driving it between New Mexico and San Francisco.
For now I have reached Las Vegas after driving through the Grand Canyon and the Route 66 without any major issues. It is a pleasure to drive!

Of course it has a few minor issues:

- Driver seat inclination switch does not work (can hear the relays 'click' though)

- Emergency brake does not work (and console light remains red). This, I think, I will have to get fixed soon. If anyone can advise a good Jaguar mechanic in San Francisco ?!

- After working perfectly twice, the convertible top does not want to go down. Nothing happens when I press the switch to make it go down. When pressing the switch to make it go up (although it's already up) I can hear the motor trying to function. I will retry after operating manually, and also try to exchange the "top" relay with the "down" relay.

I will also do my homework and research the XJS forums thoroughly!

Happy to join this fine community and hoping to be useful to other XJS owners one day.

Sincerely,

Julien

Hi Julien,

Great to hear you are joining the XJS family. I have two '95s and funny thing is I bought both out of southern Cal. and did the same thing getting to know them as I was driving them home. Each one has a personality of it's own and I have come to understand that these little quirks are just the way they talk to us. What I like about the XJS with the AJ16 is that even though it is fairly modern it is still easy to work on and around. So much of these cars are really straight forward once you get familiar with them and learning about the car is half the fun. There are many here that are very familiar with this engine and car and very helpful so again welcome and enjoy the ride.
