Hello all,

A few months back I decided that i wanted to buy a 2nd car to play about with.

I looked through the local adverts and found a 1997 XK8 Coupe. I went and had a look, took it for a drive, fell in love with it and here I am.

The car is possibly a bit unusual as it was imported into Dubai from Japan, which posed a few of its own problems, however after looking at some of the threads on this site (thanks by the way) i was able to change the dashboard language from Japan to english, which is a bit handy, although I can now read the flashing message on the bash which is a traction control failure..... maybe should have left in Japanees......

The car has a few bits and pieces need to to be done which I will be asking help for in another mail. Its still pretty new to me so i need to understand whats right and whats wrong with the car. I also need to change the stereo as the bandwidth does not match the local stations here...

A bit about me, Im from the UK originally (Dundee, Scotland). Ive been living and working in Dubai (Middle East) for the last 9 years with my wife and kids.

This is a great forum and will be very helpfull for me.

Japanese used vehicles regularly turn up in Australia but not often further east. Buyers there have found the issues you mention are typical. VIN is another odd one. The Japanese VIN's on the saloons aren't recognised by Online decoders so you may have to watch this when sourcing parts if the XK8 is similar.

No need for links as you already know your way around here. XK8/XKR section is the place to post tech questions.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
