I just closed the deal an a 1997 XK8 Convertible with 70K miles I am the 3rd owner. The exterior paint started out white(MDY) but the first owner decided he wanted Silver so he did a complete repaint. I could not find the original color anywhere.

The car has a Mina exhaust system, which I find to be a little too loud so I'll need to look into changing that. Also included is the original exhaust system so that gives me some options. The car has 20" custom wheels with new directional tires on them and I also got the original wheels with tires with the deal.

I haven't yet had a chance to talk to the shop that has done the maintenence on the car so I don't the status on the timing chain/tensioners but the seller says they have been serviced in the last few years. We'll see about that.
The roof is working right now but I don't know the condition of the hydraulic system so that will need attention.

Being retired, I'll have plenty of time to look into all the questionable areas of concern on this model. I have owned many British sports cars over the last 50 years, MG's, Healeys, Sunbeam Alpine, so I know what I'm getting into. LOL. I have also owned a couple of Porsche 928's. As you can see, I am used to exotica.

One thing that I have to fix right away is the rear view mirror, which has terminal separation. I read somewhere on this forum that there is a company that repairs them, Radar-Mirror.com. I would appreciate any guidance on this from the membership.

Thanks for the interesting Intro. You've had some great cars and this one sounds a real find.

The rear view mirror manufactured by Magna Donnelly is a regular issue. Follow this link to a thread with useful information on replacement:

I can see you've already found your way to the Xk8/XKR tech section so no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
