Default No sound from radio

Hi all!

I'm new to this site but have viewed it in the past looking for answers to my Jag questions. I looked for an existing thread to my problem but couldn't find anything. I have a 98 XK8 Convertible and live in the bay area. I bought my Jag used in 2003 and just passed 210K miles. Yes...I did have tensioner problems and the transmission needed a re-build, not to mention a host of other problems over the last 8 years, but I can honestly say I can't find another make or model I'd rather have. Despite the problems...it's still a nice car to own. That said, I was driving home today with the radio on, and the sound abruptly stopped. The radio was on, and indicating the station and the song that was playing...but no sound. I tried different stations to no avail. Same thing with the CD and the tape player. You coud see the display indicating the which CD and track was playing...but nothing.

I checked the trunk fuse for the amp and antenna (#9 I believe) but it was fine. I also checked the passenger side fusebox for the radio/CD fuse and it too was OK. I even tried disconnecting the battery to see if that might reset something. It didn't, but I did get to clean the battery terminals!

At this point I suspect either the power amp in the trunk (yes I do have one) or the radio itself may be the problem. Before I consider replacing them is there anything else I could try? if not, any suggestions on how to determine if the amp or the radio is the culprit?

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Jim
