Default radio code?

I called the nearest Jaguar dealer in Little Rock Arkansas yesterday and asked about a radio code giving them the last 7 characters of the 06 SV8's vin. A young lady called back this morning and gave me a 4 digit CATS number and a 6 diget KEY number; she didn't know which worked for a radio code but said try the KEY number first.

Are either of these the number I would need for the radio if the battery is disconnected? Or does this car even require a radio code?

BTW, what is the CATS number? What does it denote or how is it used? I assume the key nomber is used to cut a new key?

I believe US market cars did not have radio code protection. I have disconnected my battery many times and never had any radio/ice connection problems. If you like search this forum for radio code to find other threads on this topic.

Coded radios on US market Jaguars are very rare but not unknown. Despite the frequent discussion of this topic across model tech forums, I can recall only 5 instances of US forum members reporting having a coded radio.

In the UK where we do have coded radios, it's a 4 digit unlock code. When a coded radio is fitted, the vehicle originally has 2 code cards in the Vehicle Document Set:

This is an example from an X308 I had.

+2 on Graham's and hafren's comments. I have replaced the battery and also disconnected the battery several times on our '04 XJR with no need for a radio code.

I believe the 6-digit code is for the key. CATS is "Computer Active Technology Suspension." Even though Jaguar changed the terminology to ECATS for the X350 ("Enhanced Computer Active Technology Suspension"), dealers and the rest of us still use CATS to describe the adaptive suspension system. I don't know what a CATS number or code is, so I'll anxiously await a reply from a member who does!

Cheers,

Don

Thanks Graham,

Unfortunately this car had no owner's manuals or history of any kind with it and was even missing the spare tire and spare tire cover (which the car lot failed to mention in their listing). They did put a new battery in it and a spare from an 04 - after I made it a condition of the purchase - and the audio system works so probably no code was needed, unlike my 98 Landy Discovery which needs a code every time the battery is disconnected or even gets too low.
