Default Not a Jag But I got the Engine

Ok so the current ride is not a Jag. But I had a Burgundy and beige XKE in the early 80's. A chick magnet for sure it must be that loooong front bonnet. But now it's 2 Lincoln LS's. Raced a new jag the other day in the 2004 and he barely beat me.
Here is my question Some of the jags have a turbo on the 3.9 engine. If I can snag one of those turbo's in the recycle yard, is it possible for a garage mechanic to make it work or is there just to much electronics.
love the car.

Welcome.

Jags used a Supercharger, not a Turbo.

The S Type (Lincoln fanmily) got that s/charger on the 4.2ltr engine.

The XK and XJ series got it on the 4ltr engines earlier in the time frame.

I reckon there would be many differences, both mechanically and electronically.

Grant is right. An additional big hurdle to overcome is reducing the compression ratio on the engine from it's present 11:1 to around 9:1. Keeping it at 11:1 would lead to overboost and very short engine life.

Not worth

Can't help specifically with the Lincoln but I have installed a number of turbo conversions on non-turbo Supras. The key is the engine management; getting more fuel in and retarding spark while under boost. Your stock ecu unfortunately isn't programmed to know anything about a supercharger and stock injectors may not be up to the task. There are many old-school ways to "fool" the ecu with piggyback electronics, extra injectors or add-on boost-referencing fuel pressure and spark retard units. Its sort of the hot-rodder's tradition to find parts from different cars in the salvage yards, bolt them together and figure out how to make them work. Dealing with the electronics I guess is just the modern evolution of that. Many modern hobbyists now just replace the entire stock engine management system with a programmable aftermarket system that can be tuned on a dyno with a laptop computer. Trouble is that in the United States, most local laws prohibit doing such things as "tampering" with the emissions and you have to wait till the car is 25 or 35 years old before you can legally do it and still register it for on-road use. Maybe move to Oklahoma and read up on the subject. I recommend a couple of old books; "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell or "Turbochargers" by Hugh MacInnes.

It is most likely best if the OP just purchases an S-Type R that is available for sale.
