Greetings- I need some advice before I make the plunge. I am looking at 3 Jags right now 1)1999 XJ8 149,000 2) 1998 VDP 162,000 3) 1999 XJ8 113,000. Aside from the timing chain/sensors, throttle body box(?) and Nikasil cylinders is there anythig else I need to know about and which of the three would you pick? And yes I will have a PPO done before I sign on the dotted line. Thanks in advance for your input.

Welcome, you already seem very insides in / out about those rides from what I say .Well, that's a though because I prefer VDP versions but it's considerably higher mileage then other two cars .
If maintained well that should not be a "rotten apple" but I think I would go for your #3 option

If I were going to be buying such a high mileage car, I'd certainly pay a few c-notes to the dealer to give the car a full evaluation, you'll discover any leaks, worn suspension parts (very likely), electrical malfunctions, any stored diagnostic codes which could be indicative of future problems, brake pad/rotor status, undercarriage damage (frame or body work), etc.

For buying used, that's always a good investment. Please consider, and good luck in your hunt.

Welcome, I go with everything mentioned above, but you don't indicate price.

welcome to the forum mistress...good to have you with us
Sorry I can't help much with advise on these older cars, but good luck in your choice of vehicle.

Please note - Itd be better if you posted this into the relevant section where you will be much more likely to get better all round advice from owners of that particular model / year

Mistress, I personally would go with option #3 assuming that all the cars are in comparable shape.

With that being said, I live about an hour south of you in California MD (yes, it is a town down here, ironically just south of Hollywood). if you ever want to spend some time learning about your car, let me know. I am always working on vehicles and can help you get what you need done. There isn't much that I can't fix on a car. may want to watch the Regional Forums too as we occasionally get together to do stuff. I know I am looking to create a day when we can all meet up say near the Washington Monument and then spend the day walking the National Mall as we talk about our cars. We have also met up for a Jaguar only car show and other events like that.
