Oldguy
Good afternoon y'all.
I purchased a 2008 Jaguar XK Convertible with 19k miles around a year ago. My first automatic in about 30 years.
In the last year I've put about 2k miles on as I'm retired and I get around on the motorcycle most of the time.
I've had the top down about a half dozen times.
Yesterday I noticed two light gaps in the top, in back where the top meets the chasis.
I opened the top halfway and it turned out the rubber seal that goes around the top,on the bottpm, in back from side to side ripped on both sides.
It tore about an inch from where it was anchored towards the front of the car near the pivot point.
The only explanation I can think of is that whoever secured the rubber seal pulled the seal too tight on both sides. That is why it tore on both sides at the same time.
My warranty was up four months ago.
I have a number of questions:
1- Is this an easy, at home fix or do I have to take the top off?
2- Does anyone know the part number or a site where I can find it?
3- Is this a design problem that Jaguar has addressed?
4- We have one Jag dealership here in San Antonio. Any ideas on how
to approach this if I can't fix this myself?
Thanks
Oldguy
Welcome to the forum Oldguy,
Good to have you with us.
Head on over to the XK/XKR section XK / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and ask about your torn seal there. Someone will have an answer.
If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

I purchased a 2008 xk convertible around a year ago with apx 19k miles. The car I had before was a 2001 Porsche Carrerra convertible which like most of my previous autos, were standard shifts.
The xk seems to offer the best of both worlds, comfort, ease of driving and good response.
For thrills I ride BMW R1200R motorcycle about every day.
I was kind of afraid to purchase the Jaguar due to the days when I spent a lot of time under the hood of my vehicles. One of those was a 1987 Jaguar two seater with 12 small thirsty cylinders.
Now all I want to do is have fun with the grandkids, play golf, and go fast every once in a while.
I joined for two reasons. One, I need some help with a problem I have with my convertible top and two, I think I still remember stuff that might be helpful to others.
We live in San Antonio, the weather and the women are hot.
