Default Parting with 2000 Jaguar

My name is Basil. I have never driven a jaguar before until my brother-in-law gave me a 2000 Jaguar s-type last year. What was remarkable about this car is that it only had about 83000 miles (at the time) on the odometer for such an old car. My wife and I spent some money into taking care of repairs: passenger front and rear window regulators changed; oil change; brake job; car detail. The engine light was on and in order to have it registered in Connecticut we have to clear the light. I discovered that intake manifold had a slight crack so I had it repaired. the light went off and came back on again. I went to the dealer and they updated the software and the light came off but came back on again. I went back to the dealer and they performed a more in depth diagnosis and said they don't have the tools required to clear the cause of the engine light being on because they said the vehicle is old.

The car still drives well except for the engine light and the radio not working. Since I am not able to register it I would like to sell it to someone (maybe an auto mechanic) that would love have an old jaguar that still runs well and be in a better position to personally work on the car to rectify the engine light issue.

Welcome to the forum Basil,

That is as close as you can get to an advertisement with your first post and getting a permanent ban. Before posting again, please read the following guidance:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...efore-posting/

The dealer is talking rubbish - a 2000 Jaguar is OBD compliant. A generic scantool will read the majority of codes that can trigger the CEL and those code(s) will help identify the cause. Clearing codes will put the light off but it will come on again if the cause has not been fixed.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Basil,
I hope you find a Competent mechanic, probably an Independent, to fix your car for you as the dealer seems only too lazy to do it..
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to teh Forums.

The X200 S Type is an awesome car, and little glitches should not dampen the passion.

Graham is correct, find a mechanic that can read the codes, and post the code numbers in the X200 Tech Section where deciphering will sort it quick time.

Good luck.
