Hello All,

I am preparing to purchase a 2000 S Type from a friend that has been getting screwed over by repair shops. The interior is very clean as well as the exterior except for a ruff front bumper. That is ok because I would most likely put an R bumper on it or repaint the stock bumper anyway.

She has had the front suspension worked on as well as the transmission redone. It has the dreaded misfire problem and the front suspension is making noise again. I can tell her son hit something in it before she made him park it but it has 130K on it so I really wonder is it worth fixing up. I mean it is in really good condition now but do these cars do high mileage? I am not afraid of repairs per-say but I don’t want a money pit or a car that’s almost dead.

What I propose is doing the water pump, timing tensor, belts, head gasket and change fluids before really driving it. What do you all think I really want your input because I want to do most of it myself if I purchase.

Welcome to the Forum, Rayjht! Wish I could help, but I don't know much about S-types. I do know that you can spend a ton of money real fast on a Jag if you are not a self-wrenching type, so you may be on the edge of spending more than it's worth. You need to go over to the S-type Forum and post your questions there. We have a lot of folks with a bunch of experience to share, and I'm sure you will get some fine guidance.

Welcome again, and I hope it works out for you.

Rayjht be prepared to spend some money! If you are NOT a diy'er the 2002 and older S Types can become quite costly chasing down and repairing "wearable" items. Definetly a DIY'ers vehicle. JTIS or www.alldatadiy.com is basically your "cheapest" repair manuals available, there are no Chiltons or Haynes.

The misfires can be a multitude of different things ie....vauum lines, spark plugs, MAF sensor, CC's, Coils on and on....... The very first tool that is a must have is a OBD reader for reading the codes.

Good luck and let us know!

BTW welcome to the forums!! Lots of searching and reading should be done!

Hello and welcome to jaguarforums.com.

Oh one other thing you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for.

Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.
