Default Power Windows

1987 Jaguar XJ6. I recently unhooked all the window switches to take the center console out to fix the cruise control switch that came loose. I had to unhook the ground wires to remove the shifter cover so I could put the clip on the backside of the cruise control switch. I put all the ground wires back on with the shifter cover and put everything back together. Both windows on the drivers worked but the passenger side windows wouldn't work! I'm not sure what the 2 fuses are for next to the shifter, but they both look good. Can anyone please give me some advice? I don't understand why one side of the car windows work and not the other! Where are the fuses located for the windows? Are there more than one fuse for the windows? Please help! Thank You!

Jeremy,

The left-right windows are on two different circuit breakers.

You'll find the circuit breakers just below the fuses on the RH component panel...down there below the glove box. They're roughly 3/4" square and have red/slate wires.

You'll probably have to remove the RH under-dash trim/knee panel for access.

Anyhow, swap the wires from one breaker to the other. If the problem has now switched sides then you have a circuit breaker on the blink.

You can replace the Jaguar circuit breaker with a 30 amp fuse or a more common/generic circuit breaker from an auto parts store. The bona-fide Jaguar replacements are stupid-expensive.

If swapping the wires from one breaker to another doesn't change anything then you probably have a couple faulty switches and/or poor connections at the switches. If you suspect faulty switches you can swap them around as well to confirm.

If your careful you can open up a switch to clean the contacts. That's usually all that's needed to bring 'em back to life

Cheers
DD
