Pre-newbie here... not much to tell... looking at a 2004 XK8
Hi All,
Not much to tell here yet... looking at a 2004 XK8. But let me say thanks for all of the info I read last night when we began thinking about a purchase. That's what lead me to the 2004 (instead of earlier years). A few yeas back, I owned a 1987 Cadillac Allante which, if you're not aware, is a complicated vehicle. I'm guessing Jags are in the same realm. I wish there had been a Forum this good when I was looking then.
Anything I should be looking out for on this 2004 XK8? It wasn't until after I purchased the Allante that I learned there was a button combination to be pushed on the climate control that would run self-diagnostics on most every system on the car. Any such secrets / things to look for concerning the 2004 XK8?
Thanks in advance for any help!
PS: Gotta love the bricks falling icon...
until you're the one under the pile. lol

Welcome,
One thing I've learned the hard way over the years with any Jaguar purchase is to make sure it has two Black Master Keys, two remotes (fobs), one Green Valet Key and that they all work. Replacing a missing key is very expensive.
Next is to take the time to carefully check all the lights and every switch works. The Driver's Handbook will help with this. You can download a copy from my MediaFire account here:

Copy and paste the link into a new browser window. Hope the 2004 passes inspection and you're soon here as a new owner.

2003-2006 are good years to buy into the jaguar family of XK8s, shouldn't be too much wrong if the maintenance has been kept up. Within the first montsh of ownership, you may find a small coolant leak, some cracked vacuum/air lines in the bonnet causing a lean condition, and the suspension bushings typically last 5-8 years, so all of these minor inconveniences can be expected. Don't let the headrests not working scare you, its an easy fix.
I remember getting my car in 07, I can still recall that goofy feeling the closer it got to picking the one. I know exactly what you are going through.

Hey blang, welcome to the forum. The XK models are wonderful cars, but they have quirks. The hunt will be fun, but not nearly as much as owning the car. Cruise on over to the XK8/XKR forum and follow the threads, or jump in with your own questions, there are a lot of knowledgeable and helpful contributors there.

Thanks for the great advice so far. Exactly what I was looking for. Yeah, I could have said "thanks" later... so this post will end up being redundant... but it just seemed rude to not say thanks. Yep, I'm getting excited that this XK8 will be much better than the Allante was.
