Default Oil Filler tube and cap

I have a 2004 XK8 convertible with 26,000 miles. I can't get the cap off the oil filler tube and the tube turns when I try to loosen the cap. The car is leaking oil. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The dipstick tube is supposed to be connected to the block, just under the valve cover, and then you should be able to twist or pull the cap out. At this point you don't have much to lose. Once you do get it out, put a little grease on the end, so this doesn't happen again. Also make sure you haven't bent the dipstick tube. That would give you the same problem......Be cool.....Mike

The red cap is a disposable it has to be broke like certain caps on other products and a replacement is available. When I purchased my dipstick there was a couple spares in the package
Disregard this I was thinking transmission dip stick DUH!!!!

This has happened to me too. You have to remove the engine cover (the cosmetic plastic cover) held by the 4 big screws. The oil filler cap and tube will probably come off with it. You then have to separate the tube from the cap (most likely by hand), then put the tube itself back on the engine (without the cap for now). This is (at most) a quarter turn affair, and the fit is less than tight. You can check, but mine did not come with a gasket. Then you can put the cover back on. FWIW, the brackets the cover screws on can definitely be bent back to whatever position makes the cover fit best. Once in place, you can put the oil filler cap back on.

For the next time, try and hold the tube in place when you unscrew the oil filler cap so the whole thing does not come off again. Best of luck, keep us posted.

I think he is talking about the OIL cap and tube it is connected too.

So we are definitely talking Oil Filler Cap (item 8) on a 4.2 litre engine:

The leak must be coming from either a damaged filler tube or Valve Seal (item 7) in the Camshaft Cover. A temporary fix can probably be made with silicone after cleaning off the oil but it looks like replacement parts are inevitable.

I've never had to remove the filler tube on a 4.2 but it look as if it screws in rather than being a push fit ........?

That's so "off topic" it's not even in the right forum. Unfortunately there's nothing in the Jaguar Parts Catalogue to help you!

The filler cap screws in and there is a silly clip holding it in so it does not screw out. People won't see it as the leaking oil covers it. Some diagrams have a gasket below it some do not. Can you tell me where you got this diagram or the part number associated with the gasket at the top of the manifold that goes on the bottom of the filler tube. That is where these leaks come from.
