A 2001 XK8 convertible to be precise - v8 and a soft top in one

so far, very very pleased. I get the occasional "ABS" warning (hey ho) but loving every second.

Welcome to the forum bbq,

Seems a very long way to go to buy a Jaguar!

Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for help and advice. A good place to start is the 'HOW TO's at the top of the threads.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Also check the Western US - AK CA NV OR UT HI WA ID - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum regional section for other members in CA.

Graham

Welcome to this friendly forum.
I believe your ABS warning is a common problem and can (usually) be a DIY fix.
Basically you remove and retain the ABS sensors and discard the rest of the car !!
You'll find a serious answer or two by following Graham's link.

Wow, that's an impressive welcome

At 45,000 miles should the tensioners be at the top of my proactive maintenance list?

Yes, it's the World's nicest forum.
Tensioners - it all depends what your engine's got.
You'll need your VIN and a search in your specific forum and via Google.
If that doesn't help post on the XK forum Graham linked you to.
