Exclamation Rusty rotors

Rusty rotors can be so bad that even pads are rust bonded to them. If your car sets outside and you take a trip for a few weeks, you come back to a horrible expensive surprise. Bad way to get experience, if you drive daily you keep it ground off, but it can build swiftly. Most people wring their hands and agonize if their vehicle sets out. I have found a simple in expensive solution. Its like a rain coat for your wheels. I simply used 55 gal trash bags pulled over each wheel and duct taped the excess so wind wouldn't balloon and remove the bags. Keeps them rotors dry, saves you big bucks and costs less than 2 USD to do it. Remember the good old days when we had brake shoes and drums? The drum protected the working surfaces real well. Sometimes new technology can suck. Like rotors go away.

WOlff, welcome to the forums. I think you will find a lot of interesting things here. There are some very knowledgeable people here too that can explain just about anything you may need.

As for keeping the rust off of the rotors, that is an interesting idea. For me, I just don't worry about it. You are simply slowing down the process by adding a bag over the wheel. Not to mention, to me, that seems like a big invitation to people to look at your car/place since putting bags over the wheels is indicating "I am not driving this vehicle for awhile". The rust that forms on the rotors is very soft (relatively speaking) and wearing it off with a good braking or two is no big deal. It won't hurt the pads.

Welcome to the forum Wolff,

It's usually the epb pads that stick, so if you disengage it before you park up it will help with the problem.
