Default Scored a 4.2L engine

Hi, I'm brand new to the group. I have two opportunities to get into the Jaguar (or replica) community and want to introduce myself. Most importantly, I just acquired a "rebuilt" 4.2L XK6 engine. Based on my research of the block number (25954) it is a 1978ish Series II engine. It has the Bosch-Lucas L-Jetronic electric fuel injection. It's been sitting for several years and was rebuilt by a long time Jaguar owner in the Phoenix area. I understand that he once owned an XK-120 and several XJ6's. I have no idea what the extent of the rebuild was, but can see that it was definitely worked on. It's very clean and the block has been repainted. It has what look like new freeze plugs (I think) as they are bright brass/copper in color on the side of the block. At some point I'll have to tear into it for a peak.

So, my original plan was to build a Shell Valley C-Type kit. The engine they use is a small block Ford or Chevy in the 300hp range. This makes a very quick 2300 pound car. I have seen online several examples with various Jaguar straight 6 engines, and the car begs for it. That's what got me searching for a Jag engine, which I found. In the meantime, I have also come across a potential 1970 XKE purchase. This would be a major (and expensive based on the sales price) restoration project, but maybe I have an engine for it?

Now to my real question. What reasonable ($$$) performance upgrades can be done to my engine? I see horsepower ratings all over the place, but would like something in the 250hp range at least. Is this possible with my basic engine without breaking the bank? I'm assuming replacing the FI with 2 or 3 carbs as a start.

Any help and/or advice from the Group would be much appreciated!

Bob
