So this is where all the cool old guys hang out
Hi, I'm new member JagXK. Can't believe I got that username.
I've never owned or even driven a Jaguar. A few months ago I was looking at Challengers, Mustangs, Camaros (I like pony cars), then on to Boxsters (my friend is a Porsche guy) and BMW convertibles, along with others like Hyundai Genesis, Civic Si, Ford Fusion/Focus, etc. All kinds of cars. Open mind. When all of a sudden it hits me: I've wanted a Jag XK since I was 14
years old, in the early '70's. I thought they were priced too high; last I remember looking a few years ago they were $30k+ used. But I checked again, and wow have the excess prices taken a tumble.
I want one. Period. If it turns out to be a lousy car so be it - I'll trade out later. But I'm getting one. In just a few weeks time I've become totally obsessed, and have been reading through this forum and JagLovers since then and am in the process of test-driving. Let me know any other forums worth watching please. This is a 40-year old itch that is finally going to get
scratched.
I've got a 2003 BMW 330Ci coupe, and while I know a Jag isn't near as good a car, or even close to as good looking from almost every angle but the front, it is still a really beautiful car and I'm sensing much better made than in days gone by. And I like, really like, the idea of a small-block aluminum V8 in a sporty car (I have an aluminum small-block V8 in one of my cars and it is a very good thing).
The XK is too long to be a really good sports car, but it is well-designed for cruising at high speeds. A sports-tourer, and in Florida's grid-planned roadway system there are ALOT of long, relatively straight and curvy roadways perfect for this type of driving. It is going to be a good match.
The general consensus here seems to be that the Jag is an old guy's car. Maybe so. The wide-eyed 14-year-old is 58 now so I guess as fate would have it, the old guy is getting a Jag. So I want to say that this Jag desire doesn't come from some wizened elder automotive sensibility or aesthetic. It comes out of a 14-yr-old.

Hello,
While it's true that we're all cool, we're certainly not all 'old guys.' They let me play here too, along with some other girls!
Congratulations on realizing your life long dream of an XK.

for the warm welcome.
I'll be looking at an XKR owned by a housewife tomorrow if all goes well, Elinor.
I think that's probably a good thing, because women drivers are more likely to drive under the speed limit and be gentle on the equipment.
... Right?

As for "under the speed limit," you will only find me there when I'm trapped in a Very Long line stuck behind a tanker and have no way out. I take Speed "Limits" as Suggested Velocities. So far, so good.

Oh no Jonathan. That's too bad, but the minimum age of Jaguar ownership is 34.
You'll have to surrender your car to me. We'll work out the logistics off the board.
Sorry, I thought you knew.
