Default Soon to be owner of two Jaguars

Crazy saga. A few weeks ago I was browsing CraigsList cars and trucks (as I do for amusement) and happened to see an ad for an X-Type SportWagon cheap but not running. I showed the pictures to my wife and she agreed that it was attractive. We have very different tastes in cars: she loves her bubble-top conversion van (I don't) but I'm drawn more to sporty, performance models. This is the first vehicle that we both agree we like, at least from the pictures.

But that car had over 200,000 miles and is not running, so she went searching the World Wide Web. She eventually found one in North Carolina with under 100,000 miles, running, and under $5000. It took some time to contact the dealer, arrange the purchase, transfer the funds, and arrange the shipping from Raleigh to Dallas. We're hoping to get that car next week, maybe.

In the mean time, she got impatient and started negotiating with the CraigsList seller. Ultimately, she got him to agree to deliver it to us about forty miles away for under $1000. He promised to bring it next Sunday.

So we still haven't seen either car "in the flesh" let alone smelled the dipstick. I'm concerned I've bit off more than I can chew. I'm far to old to crawl on my back under old cars, but we do have a good mechanic nearby.

I'm looking forward to an adventure.

The X-type Sportwagen is pretty rare. Having one nice one and one cheap one as a "parts car" is probably a pretty good idea. Once you have the nicer one all cleaned up and sorted, bring it out to a local car show or one of the local club events https://www.joant.club/event-calendar. Would enjoy seeing it. Welcome aboard.

Default The first one has arrived

Well, the first of the two was delivered this morning. Very clean, excellent condition for a 20 year old car. I drove it home from the drop-off point, about a mile and a half. The air conditioning is utterly inadequate for Texas (I think I figured out how to turn it on). I left it running in my driveway for several minutes just admiring the interior and worrying about the A/C. I noticed as I shut it off the temperature gauge had climbed above where it had been, and when I got out I found a wet spot on the driveway at the left front corner. I could see something dripping from under the end of the bumper. Looked like water, didn't smell anything, but felt a little slick on my fingers. Condensation from the A/C, I hope? Or engine coolant because the fans didn't come on (I hope not)?

That's probably condensate from the A/C and nothing to worry about. I've been driving wagons for over 20 years but no Jag wagons. I believe the engine in the X type is a Ford Duratec V6 with modified heads so many parts may be easy to find and reasonably priced. As you've found out even before ownership, Jags can be addicting.
