Default Thinking of buying

So, my history with Jags goes back to 1972 when I bought my XKE, joined the Ontario Jaguar Owners Association, became vice-president, judged Concour De Elegance Canada and USA, built, serviced Jaguars, my hobbies also included building 1/4 Chevy small block road and drag cars, custom Harley’s since I was 16. Sold my last XKE in1994 after owning three plus a MK9 and a 1972 XJ6. Bought a Vette, totally race prepared it, wrote it off, bought a 1996 Collector Edition Vette convertible, kept my hands off it, (I can’t stop rodding anything including my Dodge Diesel RAM), sold my Vette yesterday for cash, yes he bought an inch and a half wad of bills, looking at a beautiful 1992 XJS Cabriolet 90,000 kms, 2nd owner. Putting “my ducks in order”, I am researching this car including getting the OBD 1 codes and a service manual off eBay. Found a local shop that says they can fix most things on the car, one mechanic’s Dad repairs Jaguars and Triumphs with service manuals going back ages just in case I come up against a “wall” personally. So that’s my automobile and motorcycle career in short form. Many other hobbies including musician since 1959, pilot and others. We showed the Vette and hope to do the same with the Jaguar.
just decided to go with a larger automobile with more space, a cabriolet, love to tour with the top down, and air. Old now, 71 September, need air.
so Space, Pace and Grace to you all…

Hello,
That is Some automotive history!
With that background you're Perfectly suited to conquer the Classic Jaguar XJS, no matter how recalcitrant the example you find. I wish you success in your hunt.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Default My history

Elinor

My life, a book can be written on my life. Sandee and I go to generic car shows to show our recent past Vette (500-700 cars of vintage, rod and special interest) and will be doing the same if we get the XJS. Going to look at the '92 Cabriolet Sunday. Fingers crossed it's 6.0 litre (post May '92), has a couple of advantages, more HP, outboard rear brakes instead of inboard, have rebuilt a number of those inboard brakes on XKE's, and a GM automatic trans, any transmission shop can deal with that if a problem may occur, don't expect much wrong at 90,000 kms.
Regards
Kirk

Welcome or is it welcome back. I too show classic cars, including at present a 69 Corvette so I can understand the desire for more luggage capacity. When the fuel tank takes up literally the entire space that would be a trunk on most cars, its difficult to bring much in the way of car show supplies. A canopy for shade? Forget it! Some participants with sedans will even just sit in the shadow of their open trunk lid. I can't even do that.

On the plus side for the XJS, I don't see many at our local car shows. I've been going to car shows for 34 years and I've gotten to where I just walk right by the rows and rows of Chevelles, Camaros and Mustangs as I'm quite sure I've seen every possible combination of colors and options ever made by now. And nobody stops to look at my Corvette anymore either unless its somebody new to the show. A collector friend of mine has probably 30 domestic muscle cars but he'd gotten burned out and quit bringing them. However, the last few years, he's only come a few times and he'll bring out a micro-car. It started with a Reliant Robin that he bought a decade ago for only a few hundred dollars. It'll always be the biggest hit at the show because nobody in Texas has ever seen one except on Top Gear where they made such a big joke about crashing them and even famously launched one on a rocket. Now he's got a few micro-cars and has been having more fun with those than all the muscle cars combined (and for far less money). That's the key to car shows is to bring something unique. I wouldn't suggest to drive the XJS in on three wheels but it's definitely more unique than most of the domestic stock. I'd stop and look at it.

Yes, agreed, Camero's, Mustangs and Chevelle"s are passe except 1967 Mustang GT500, but I did that genre for many many years with my own cars. The Vette we owned was one of only 16 brought into Canada, most everyone just walked by, never knowing how rare it is. Oh well, we just go for the fun, never win a trophy, Vette was a driver not Concour. With us it was great looking at 500 fantastic cars and a social thing. We could cram 2 fold up chairs and a lunch in a cooler into the Vette.
Looking forward to seeing this XJS Cabriolet tomorrow, more room AND a boot. Have all that cash in my safe right now.
