It took 50 years!
I saw my first jaguar in 1962 when I was 6 years old, a green E-type at Dewart Lake in Indiana. I thought the most beautiful creation in my life to that point.
When I was 11, I got a hot wheels car, the E-type in BRG. I put it on the shelf to admire and never played with so I wouldn't destroy the beauty of it.
At 17, I bought my first MG, the first of many British cars.
But at age 56, after my wife got tired of me spending hours drooling over Jags on EBay, she said, "just do it already"
Wellllll, the E-type is always out of my price range. A friend, Phil, who is a member of JagIn, told me that an XJS would suit me well.
After watching the prices fall into the cellar, but reading that with good maintenance habits, the facelift cars would be a good fit for me, a guy that works 60-70 hours per week, but love the character of Brit cars.
Thus, through an absolute auction on eBay, we bought a 1995 Brooklands Green/coffee interior XJS convertible with 98k miles.
I am absolutely thrilled with the Jag. Brakes, shocks, and suspension bushings changed, it's coming around. Need to change steering rack and repair climate control and the mechanicals will be good.
I understand that the XJS was a disappointment to Jag enthusiasts, but what a great grand touring machine. My wife and I absolutely love it. When friends see us, they as, "did you hit the Lotto?"
I so want to tell them that you can buy these cars, needing some TLC, for under $10k, but they won't believe me, the car exudes so much class.
The XJS joins a 1965 MG Midget in BRG, a 1975 Triumph TR6 in French Blue, and a '04 Mini Cooper (BRG again) which is the wife's daily driver.
Pretty incredible, over 30 cars, 4 kids, 3 wives, 2 careers, and I find my happiness with the younger sister of the most beautiful sight of my adolescence.
