Red face Very new at this 2003 Jaguar S-type

I've owned my Jaguar since Feb 2009 midnight/black interior. I bought it with 38,000 miles and some factory warranty remaining on it. It now has 75,000 miles.

I'm a bit intimidated and new to this (talking about my jaguar to people who know what they are talking about). My husband owns an older model BMW 530I and neither he nor I know much of anything about fixing cars.

I was told by many friends, family and co-workers not to buy Jaguar.. go with a Toyota model maybe Lexus... and now they are saying "I told you so!"

It's got some issues that I'll post a question or two about in the proper forum once I get familiar with the forum.

Hello from Abigail!

Welcome to the forum !

I think you will be very pleasantly surprised at how helpful and supportive the folks here are.

Even if you do not fix your cars yourself, armed with some knowledge, you will be much more confident when you go for service.

Don't hesitate to post your issues in the S-Type forum.

Welcome to the forum Abigail,

Post your problems in the S Type forum and I'm sure you will get lots of good advice.
Don't forget to include all the details you can about your problem and the model, year, engine size etc for your car.

Hello from Abigail!
Hi Abigail, and welcome.

Sounds like your friends and family are not knowledgeable about cars all that much either. Jaguar has held one of the top positions in reliability for more than a few years now- much better than Lexus or MB.

Welcome, Abigail!! As you have been told, cruise over to the S-type forum to get some serious help. If those folks are anything like the members of the XK8 and XJ8 forums, you will be getting the last laugh on the anti-Jag crowd in no time. The knowledge and experience and just down-right desire to help is amazing around here.

And be sure to tell your friends: "If you are going to arrive, you simply must arrive in a Jaguar!"

Cheers,

Shhh, don't say it too loud. I want the "Jaguars are unreliable" myth to linger on so people like me can buy used Jags for such great prices.

AJ16er - Our first Jag was a used 1993 XJ6. A Kingfisher Blue VDP with factory wire wheels. What a gorgeous machine, and I was surprised at how low the price was. However, as a fellow 1993 owner, I'd like to sit down with you over a beer sometime and discuss the aggravation that beautiful creature caused me. (Obviously, the class and comfort overcame all that and I still remain sold on the Marque.) Here's one of my last pictures of it:

One time I considered dumping it for another brand, but when I drove my 25-year-old daughter's bridesmaids home from her rehearsal dinner and they all giggled about how it was the coolest car they'd ever been in, and said what a neat guy I must be to buy this car for my lady, I had to re-think that course of action.

Cheers,

Ooops- sorry, I forgot.

Right, here's what I meant to say- Jaguar? Nobody knows if they're reliable or not because they keep catching on fire every time somebody tries to drive them.

How's that?

My lady has wanted an S Type longer than I've been with her. She got the same negative advise. When I found this one, I was also warned to stay away from them. But being the stuborn hard head I am, I said screw em, it's a deal and my baby wants it. Truth be told I think I wanted it almost as much as she did. Reminds me of my young days when dad warned me to beware of loose women. Who the heck wants to listen to that sort advise!

I'm sure the answers to your problems can be found here. I just joined myself and have already learned a lot.

We are in the DFW area. Today we found some great guys in Dallas who had the equipment to read the codes at no cost. It looks like its going to be my tranny.
