Will I ever learn?
So I couldn't help myself. After owning and loving jags since my first MKII 3.8 manual with OD one would have thought by now I should have learnt about the thrills of owning a Jag.
Having too much time on my hands and funds from the sale of a 1966 MGB, that at my age getting in and out of was a pain, plus the wife thought we looked like pickled people sitting in the MGB.
Then over the other side of Australia 4000 plus K's away, up popped a Jag, 97 XK8 Convertible for sale at a realistic price.
I made the call to the advertiser and suddenly sight unseen (are you up off the floor yet?) I paid a deposit and the wife and I flew across country a few weeks later to claim my new Toy.
Luckily my mechanical skills are extensive and I took a professional OBD reader with me before handing over the $.
The car turned out to have a full service history up to date and the local dealer also validated the history of the car.
Like any car of this vintage there were a few minor scars, with the front bumper undertray damaged along with a wind deflector. Other than that, connecting the diagnostic reader came up with a few fault codes but nothing of concern, so pay the man the money and take off for a 7 day break and clock up 800k's with no problem whatsoever.
What about tensioners and chains etc, you say. All done by the previous two owners.
My expectation is that there will be jobs to be done, after all it is a 25 year old Jaguar, but Jaguar's are very addictive once in the blood. I'm sure you all know what I mean.
I have already gleaned a lot of information from this site and hopefully can contribute positively to it.
Cheers from "the Land Down Under"

Hello,
So you bought, sight unseen, a 25 year old Jaguar on the other side of the continent and drove it home?
I've always heard that Aussies are fearless, but, Ooo! You Brave!
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
