xjs 4.0 "porpoising"

xjs 4.0 "porpoising"
New to this site, I have a wonderful xjs convertible, with just one problem. On a cold start, the rpm's rage from 500 to 2000 in a cyclical fashion. After warming up a bit, the situation returns to normal.
Any ideas as to the problem and what is the fix?

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
