Idiot here
first of all I hit my windshield wipers as I was leaving a car wash with my newly acquired 2004 XK8 convertible and apparently blew off one of the covers for the left hand squirter unit. I didn’t realize that these were going to open and be exposed. So I tried to install a new cover I purchased online and you all said just pull out the squirter unit and stick it on with a little Vaseline. Well, as I tried to pry it out with my fingertips, the squirter unit got dislodged and it’s just sort of hanging down inside the piece of the headlight. So now it won’t even come out and squirt if I were to hit the button until I get it somehow re-anchored and then covered with the replacement cover. I thought I would just be able to press that in and have it snap in place but apparently that doesn’t work , any tips or tricks to re-anchoring the unit inside? The headlight area would be appreciated. I’m thinking I’m gonna have to pull the whole thing out. Also, is there anything else besides a new cover that is needed to make the two pieces that is the squirter unit and the cover or is it just a snapfit , sorry to be wordy but at my age and eyesight I’ve got issues. Lol I do like the secrets of the XK8 guy but I haven’t found a secret on his site yet to fix my problem. I guess I have to check in here for replies, or you could send to my email : QT 1449@aol.com. I wouldn't normally give a detailed reply to a technical question in the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum but I think it could be confusing if I just move your post as it stands to the XK8/XKR model forum.

The Jaguar name for this part is the HEADLAMP POWERWASH and the chrome half moon shaped cover is a push fit on the end. This extract from JTIS (the Workshop Manual) shows the assembly:






It is secured to the headlamp with two plastic 'tangs' arrowed in this second diagram:





It's possible one or both of the tangs have been broken in the car wash incident .......
