Default XK8 2004 - solving microswitch problem, creating 3 new problems

Hi All,

I have been parasitting on your forum for a while trying to do the local Jag garage's job - the driver side window on my 2004 XK8 Coupe wolud not stay down. The garage proposed new door module, then new door latch complete with handle etc. - all rather expensive so I studied and asked them to change the microswitch!

They did the job yeasterday (USD 100 all inclusive) OK, the window does what it's supposed to do, but that's the good part!

Now, the drivers door does not lock when driving, it does not lock with the remote, the passenger door goes crazy opening and closing a few times till the alarm goes of and I probably forgot a few other related problems!

The garage did not disconnect the battery while replacing the microswitch.

Hope somebody outthere has an idea what to do - Jaguar in this country certainly doesn't!

Thanks for all your great threads, enjoy a lot, actually considering becoming a hobby mecanic.

Jagples

Welcome Jagples,

Some good news and some bad with the window. This thread is a good starting place for door microswitch issues on your model:

Good luck.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the thread, always a pleasure to read - and to know that I'm not the first, there are some advantages to that!

Since the original problem is fixed I guess the problem now could be that the garage didn't re-/connect everything correctly, or in the door module, or what do I know - a fuse!?

The only thing I can diagnose is that when the door is told to lock - it doesn't, and that creates a lot of problems!

I can lock it manually with the key or from the inside!

Tomorrow I will take the b..... door apart, and if that doesn't work, back to the garage. Whatever the solution will be, I will post it.

Thanks again
Jagples

So it now works properly with the key but not with the remote fob? It could be simply they didn't reconnect everything or the remote needs to be paired to the vehicle again.

If you start a thread for this on XK8/XKR 1996-2006 section, you'll get plenty of advice on the microswitches, modules and re-programming the remote fobs.

Remember to add vehicle details to your signature to help others to help you.

Well, I can lock and unlock the door with the key, but the alarm and the passenger door circus still applies when I lock the the drivers door. The fob still turns the alarm on/off but I need the key to open/close the door.

I checked the fuses - no luck, guess I have to take the door apart and hope to find a bad connection!

I haven't found out how to make a thread, maybe when I'm done with this, I can manage!
