Default Ive gone German!

The lease on my G37 coupe ended last month and decided it was time to go German. I picked up a 2013 328i X-Drive
- Estoril Blue with black dakota leather
- M-Sport package
- Premium Package
- Tech Package - navigation, heads up display, BMW Apps
- Cold Weather Package - heated front, rear and steering wheel
- Harmon Kardon stereo
- Reverse camera
- front / rear parking sensors

I was going to spring for a 335, but the car is mainly for my wife...and i got a SMOKING deal on it....so i figured she didnt really need 300hp. although this car is surprisingly zippy. that turbo really kicks in nicely....its not aggressive,kick-in-the-head...but it moves. Its nice and tight, yet comfortable. Most importantly the wife loves it...happy wife, happy life.

Funny story about the car. We picked up the car, it had 30 miles on the ODO...drove an hour to a restaurant near our house for dinner.....had dinner and on the drive home (5 min away from the house)....i feel a jolt and "Transmission Malfunction" and "Drivetrain Malfunction" errors on the dash. I pull over to the side to restart the car thinking maybe it'll clear the errors......i restart the car and can no longer get it out of Park. Called BMW Roadside assistance for a tow truck....truck comes and cant load it on the flatbed because he cant figure out how to get the car into Neutral, didnt want to risk pulling it on the flat bed with the AWD system. He said BMW doesnt tell them how to put the car into Neutral (But yet still expects them to safely tow the car, makes no sense).

I called roadside again, they sent me a new tow truck, same issue. he doesnt know how to do it (he said the same thing, BMW wont tell him how to do it)....but he has "skates"...which are little plastic pieces you put the wheels on and slide the car up the bed so the wheels dont turn.

Finally got the car towed, its midnight and the car has 55 miles on the ODO at this point. The next morning I get a call from the service adviser...the whole transmission needs to be replaced. theres only 2 left in the US...and i was lucky to grab one. a week later they returned the car to me...and gave me $1k to keep me happy. I was only able to drive the car for 2 hours and then had to head out for business traveling. But my wife says shes having a great time with it.....and it keeps her from driving the Jag

it sucks that this happened to a brand new car, but honestly im not flipping out as everyone else has been. I understand **** happens, even to new cars. im glad everything worked out and they took care of me

Solid German engineering,
That sounded quite an escapade!
You had a happy ending though, well done!

Nice one Carz and good that the little lady is happy......

Shame about the initial experience but to be fair it sounds like roadside assist / BMW really stepped up to the plate and you're happy in the end, so all good.

Happy motoring..

thanks guys!

i was really worried about it too because I was hearing talks of other people waiting WEEKS for parts to come from Germany, things being on back order.

they seem to really be keeping this Neutral thing a secret. Ive been in contact with my service manager and he responds fairly quickly...but when i asked him about Neutral, he stopped responding lol

I don't get it. Seems to be a step down from new G. Less power, less reliability, more expensive. What motivated this decision?

originally I was going to get a Q50 (the new G)....but their lease #'s are RIDICULOUSLY high. low to mid $600's (monthly lease payment)....i could have gotten into an XF for less than that.

ive always wanted a 3 series, she liked it....found one we liked......numbers worked out...so i went for it. lets just call it a "hold me over" until Jag comes out with a smaller car

i wouldnt call it a step down, more like a side step. yes 3 does have less power.....but its my wife who's going to be driving it most of the time......she could care less about power.

........and i have my XJ...so im not stepping down from anything

Nice choice; though troubling start...I'm on BMW #4 myself, but all quite a bit older.

Your comment is no less valid though. Bit ugly, but good he got it sorted.
