Want to start this thread for a Jaguar / Land Rover 5.0 Supercharged engine swap. I’ll most likely have questions during the process, so I’ll keep everything here.
The engine is a 2014 AJ133 with 37k miles, removed from a Jaguar after an accident and sitting for about two years. It’s being prepared for installation into a 2015 Range Rover Autobiography.
First question:
Since the engine is already out, should the timing chains, guides, and tensioners be replaced as preventive maintenance? Is it possible to judge their condition from visual inspection or pictures, and does this year use the updated timing components?
I’ll attach pictures. Any recommendations are appreciated.
The history of the engine is unknown, and it is possible the timing components has been already replaced.
The engine from a MY2014 should already have the updated timing chains and tensioners. Inspect the area at the point of contact between the hydraulic tensioner and the tensioner blade for wear or deformed surface.
Here is another interesting finding.. was swapping sensors and found a cam position sensor with a slightly deformed tip (photo attached). Timing and chains look OK.
Could a front-end collision realistically cause cam/phaser movement enough to touch the sensor? Any ideas what that could be?
