Default Ford Thunderbird With Jaguar S-Type R Engine

Hi, first time posting. I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this but wanted to start a thread on my 2004 Ford Thunderbird that is currently being replaced with the 4.2l Supercharged engine from the Jag S-Type R. Ir should be finished in another week or two so i’ll make an update! I’m more than willing to answer any questions if I can.

Cool how are you handling the engine management electronics? Did you grab the harness and pcm from the s type? What else did you need to make it all function correctly

Although I'm not an expert on this topic, let me toss this into the mix....Jaguar, when they were owned by Ford, "co developed" the DEW98 vehicle platform, which then became the jaguar XF and the Lincoln LS. This platform, in turn, spawned, in a shortened version, the Thunderbird of that era. My point being that swapping in a Jaguar engine should be a fairly straight forward proposition, although hood clearance might be an issue.

He never came back? I doubt he made any progress. 1 post only. He is what I call a hit and run poster!

Yes they were co-developed but the differences between the Ford Thunderbird engines and the SC Jaguar engines is huge. It won't be easy or straight forward. Is it possible? Probably but what's the budget on a 20+ year old obsolete car? Don't forget the T-Bird came with the 5 speed Ford automatic. Jaguar used a ZF 6 speed behind the 4.2L SC engine. That's another multi thousand dollar problem. Because now you need the compete electrical system and computer system from the STR transplanted into the T-bird.

Yes it will all bolt in as the DEW98 chassis is the same. That's not the problem. I came from the LS world (Still miss my 2003 LS Sport) and we have a lot of Jaguar envy! So many people upgraded to what Jaguar parts we could use. I did see several successful swaps of the Brembo brake system to the LS.

Finally with the cost of an STR it's just cheaper to buy one and get rid of the Thunderbird. But Ford/JLR did have plans and made a few show cars.
Here is a factory 3.9L SC Thunderbird.

Ford also did several SC LS projects. The most famous was the "Mclaren" LS. Do note the costs posted!

It does look factory but never went anywhere.
Now there have been several real cool LS's built but they do look expensive!

This is the Mclaren version. SC and a 6 speed manual!
Lincoln LS Mclaren

This guy went way over the top and with 900 HP it surely would fly!! It's running a turbocharged Terminator DOHC V8.
900HP Lincoln LS

On the Lincoln LS forum we always had several of these types of threads running.

I can only imagine what that car cost to build. CF fenders, doors ,hood and trunk too. I wish they had done a full road test on that car. 1/4 mile times and all that stuff.
