My LUMP has dud heads
Sometimes its better no to know some things.
A couple of days ago I had a valve cover off my Chev motor to modify the breather baffle so I didnt have to spend 30mins trickling oil into it at change time. While the cover was off I noted the casting numbers, as block and head casting numbers tell a lot about an old Chev engines config/age etc if you havent had it apart.
Sadly my number ended in 624, which according various Interweb sources are the worst you can have. They are frequently affected by cracking and are at the bottom of the heap performance wise.
As the cars performance is OK (more is always good, but it gets along OK) I will probably just run them till its new engine time or they develop the much talked about cracking. The good news is at least I know now , so whenever we crack it open I know its new head time, not just a clean up and refresh.

What you didn't know yesterday will make no difference tomorrow.
I buy by gut feeling and feel when I drive the car. Don't worry too much about the technical stuff until you have to.
One engine rebuild in 29 cars, my formula seems to work for me.(and that was a Mitsubishi), guess you get what is coming some times.
