Gas smell reseach!
Hi everyone, well I talked to several people in the know about my "gas smell' problem and thought I would pass this along. It may help someone else. I was told to remove the tank and have it cleaned and lined. A couple of sources told me that the tanks in the XJS models tend to swell and start leaking at the seams. By having it lined, this helps seal the tank from the inside. I did what was suggested and removed all the mats around the tank and cleaned them with detergent before replacing them. I put the new tank in a couple of days ago and had a very slight gas smell, which was expected. However, the gas smell has deminished to almost nothing by today. I honestly think this solved the problem and makes my car much more enjoyable to drive! The tank comes out pretty easy, so don't think you can't do it yourself. Also stop thinking that there is a hose leaking or a bad fitting, when you can't find any evidence of a leak! The tank seams leaking and soaking into the mat below, was the problem with mine all along. Just thought I would pass this along. Curtis
