Default About to buy a Nikon P510 opinions??

I was looking for a higher end point and shoot and came across this camera for $300. So far I am told its the best bang for the buck, any opinions? I dont really "need" the superzoom but I do enjoy taking pics.

it is very universal camera but unless you need the (sick) long tele end, pick P7100 or better yet, if size does not matter, add 100Eur and get some entry level DSLR

We recently bought a Canon SX40 as a bridge camera (bridge between the cheap and nastys and the DSLRs) for when we don't want to take our DSLRs with us, and ended up buying a few more for family. Brilliant camera, and has a hot-shoe for our flashes which we have used too. Also the video is great - I have had many people compare the video between it and the 7D and no-one can pick them. A good around-the-home or holiday camera.

The Nikon has some great features too; for me, the lack of a hot-shoe was the decider. Of course different people have different requirements, as this link shows: Canon SX40 vs Nikon P510 - Our Analysis
