FS[NorthWest]: 1998 XJ8 Sapphire Blue - Nice!
85,420 Miles and very clean. Does have transmission fault and needs a few other fiddles. A new replacement forward drum for the transmission repair is included in the asking price. I cannot find a mechanic that will just replace the part, and am not physically able to work on it myself. Hope this car finds a new home soon. Engine runs fine. Really sharp looking car! Detata wheels. Very low miles on Toyo tires.
Please contact me for additional photos and if you have questions. This is the same vehicle shown in my profile photos.

Here's a post to bump it back up the list. I saw your post on parting out, then went looking for this ad, and couldn't find it!
What are the "fiddles" and is there any repair/maintenance history?

Hello, A few "fiddles" needed on the XJ8 are:
rearview mirror: fluid sagged, needs to be rebuilt. I think sybesmas.com still does this for about $95.
Brake light switch: Works intermittently, needs a replacement switch. About $135 or if you can find another micro-switch (Digikey?) and resolder for a few bucks.
Running lights/fog lights: A small wire is loose from the turn signal stalk/light switch in the steering column. needs to be resoldered. Easy enough to fix if you can contort yourself to get at it (I can't, due to bad neck)
Instrument cluster lamps: A couple of tiny lamps are out in the instrument cluster. Can still read at night, but dim.
Battery weak: Battery is at end of service life and should be replaced or at least desulfated. A weak battery wreaks havoc on the electronic components and sets off error messages.
Transmission fault: Most likely forward drum crack as is common on this model. I have the replacement heavy duty drum to repair. I'm not physically able to tackle the repair myself, and mechanics are too pricey for my budget. Thus, I'm selling the car cheap.
Valve cover gaskets: Valve cover gaskets are seeping a bit and need to be replaced. Valve timing adjustments should probably be made since it is due.
Engine stalling: On occasion, the engine will stall during a deceleration/acceleration cycle. I think this is caused by engine vacuum overcoming the solenoid that opens and closes the choke plate or such in the throttle body. Might just need lubrication and cleaning. Replacing the throttle body will run about $1500, so I would go the cheap route first.
Repairs done: Tie rod end on one side replaced. Thermostat and housing replaced along with radiator hoses.
That is about all I can think of at this time. Interior is very clean and barely worn, except for driver's seat and steering wheel. Power assist components all work. Very nice six-pack cd changer and stereo. A/C works great.
