Salvage Title

Car was in a minor fender-bender, sliding under a truck, damaging the hood and one of the front fenders. The incident did not cause the airbags to deploy - car still has original OEM airbags. The car had NO frame damage – the items that I replaced were the hood, the front bumper cover and a one headlight. This was a simple fixer-upper when I purchased the car.

The term salvage title is imposed by insurance companies whenever the owner of the car opts to not have the car repaired and relinquishes the car to the insurance company, who gives him a cash value for the car instead. The owner makes this decision based on the following potential factors: he cannot afford to pay the deductible, chooses to not keep the car, or gives up the car to the insurance company to avoid the increase in insurance premiums or possible loss of insurance coverage altogether. The insurance company protects themselves from liability by placing the salvage title and then sells the car, as is, for a profit.

A clean title does not necessarily mean that a car hasn’t been in a severe accident. It simply means that the owner chose to have the car repaired, retained his clean title, then sold the car.
