Default Rare 2003 stick-shift S-Type that needs work...

2003 Jaguar S-Type, with rare manual transmission. Jaguar only built manual S-Types for one year (2003), and not many were built in that model year. Car comes with 3.0 V6, roughly 89,000 miles showing. More on that below.

The car comes with some personality traits you might not like: It is prone to go into limp-home mode on extremely hot or humid days. It can typically cleared by shutting the car off and then back on again, but you need to be aware of this before you buy. The car is very much for sale as-is, with no warranty stated or implied.

The car, however, was still drivable, including to and from work and on trips, as recently as this winter. We decided to park the car because of the intermittent limp-home issue.

Now for the good: Clear Alabama title. Coldest A/C in a car I've ever had. The interior is in reasonably good shape, especially the leather.

On the other hand, the center console release lever is tricky and the headliner is sagging in spots. The radio does not function; the car had an upgraded stereo in it that has been removed prior to sale. The car is, however, pre-wired for Sirius Satellite Radio and a back-up camera, complete with relay to the reverse lights in case your camera doesn't have switchable polarity. The front windshield has a crack from a rock hitting it.

Under the hood, it has brand-new coil packs, belts and hoses. A/C head unit has been upgraded with anti-DCCV failure protection, and the DCCV has been replaced as well. With the upgraded head unit, any further DCCV failures should not affect your head unit.

If you run a CarFax on this car, you will not like what you read. It is listing early trouble in the car's life in the form of a buyback, and I don't trust the mileage reading. I would put it closer to 130k if I had to make a realistic guess. The car was apparently hit front and rear years ago, and whoever fixed it didn't have an eye for detail. The spare tire well, for instance, was bent, and wasn't fixed. The paint quality on the front left fender is not good (clearcoat peel). A bumper clip broke and their solution was to insert screws rather than properly fix it. The airbag lights are on.

Checking codes with a code-checker will send back codes for engine misfire, even though the coilpacks are new. It is also showing a fault for a clutch pedal sensor, which might be the explanation for the limp-home trigger.

However, this is a rare model from Jaguar, as virtually all S-Types are automatics. Asking price is $1550 obo. You could drive it away from here but I'd be cautious about that. The car is located in Monroeville, Ala., about halfway between Mobile and Montgomery. Use it for a project car or parts (I've put more than the asking price in it just in DCCV upgrade and coilpacks alone). I just want to see someone else give it a shot. I've got a new baby in the house and just don't have the time to deal with it anymore.
